ARTIST STATEMENT
My everyday surroundings become my inspiration. People and things in it capture my attention, and I focus on feelings and emotions they bring. Through exploring portraits, still life, and landscape oil painting, unseen yet felt emotions are communicated with colors and brush strokes. The action of making art is to record the life around me. When I first started out, I found I was interested in portrait most of all. I believe portraits capture people's emotions and feelings. I feel everyone is unique, and I am able to show their individualism through their facial features. I found more inspiration from learning art history in college and seeing modern artists’ artwork. I record people’s faces like ancient artists did to show individuals’ values and powers. I also infuse unique color harmony and dashing brush strokes to showcase my artistic sense. I have experimented with different materials to paint, such as acrylic paint, oil paint, or watercolor. Most artwork I have created thus far has used oil paints on wood panels to propose a glossier finish look. I hope the viewers feel the smooth texture from my artwork. Making art creates a fun place for me to be creative. I believe art is a method to communicate with people without words.
